Week 9, Day 2 (Technology bytes me)

My computer is the lifeblood for my business, and the sanity control for my psyche. When it plays up, I normally deal with it PDQ (pretty damn quick) otherwise the repercussions are more than is worth thinking about. However the mess of problems and challenges that have been on the scene since before Xmas meant that when my main computer started doing unexpected shut down & reboots, I shoved it to the back of the queue. There is only so much this little brown duck can process at once, after all!

Over the last week it became too often non-functional than functional, and on Wednesday it pretty much became inoperable. Steve (super tech & wonderful friend) took it away on Friday and I got it back yesterday, with the ram replaced and Win XP reloaded.

If you've ever had a complete re-install then you will understand the nightmare that faces me today. I've got to reload about 20-odd programmes, restore all my defaults from my ailing memory, and reconfigure my files and settings. This is okay if you've backed up recently, but with the random shut-downs, I hadn't braved it because a shut-down in the middle of a backup can cause the files to vapourise. Steve raided my harddrive and did backups for me, but without such crucial things as programme passwords noted before hand, this is making my life ***interesting***. Add to this that I had reshuffled the entire office a couple of months ago and now I can't find the installation disks for my most important programmes.

Oh joy. At least it's Sunday and it's unlikely any clients will bug me today (well I live in hope).

Anyway, that's my grizzle over with. Baby news updates can now resume.....
