7 weeks old today (aka, If You Fluked It & You Know It, Clap Your Hands!)

I just discovered some very handy 'white noise' on hot days!

There I was, trying to get a grouchy tired baby to settle for his afternoon nap, all the time painfully aware that if I didn't get him to sleep now (being 3pm), I was in for the mother of all Arsenic Hours this afternoon!

The phone rang, and Wayne answered it. Naturally this started Joey chattering, and the combination of all three stimuli wrecked the slender progress I'd made thus far. (mumble really rude word under breath, smile, keep reassuring baby)

In part due to the heat, and also in part to drown out the "party" noise coming from the rest of the house, I leaned over and switched the fan on. And watched in delight as my baby instantly stopped fussing and unclenched his body into sleep position.

Wooobloodyhoo!

They talked about white noise helping babies sleep, but our radio alarm seems incapable of going off station to achieve this sound, so I'd given up trying for it. Nice to think there's perhaps a chance of us all surviving summer afternoon naps with our sanity intact?

...oo0oo...

Yesterday Braeden met his new GP, and they were immediate friends. Dr John seems a totally cool dude, with a great sense of humour and is clearly a dab hand at babies. Remember that this is a kid who ***hates*** being mauled about (examined, clothing removed, etc) but under Dr John's laughing hands, Braeden giggled and simpered like it was the most fun he'd ever had. Even his pelvis exam resulted in nothing worse than a pulled face and a mild kick outwards! (Last time someone tried, he screamed blue murder .. his own!)

Anyway, Braeden passed his six week examination with flying colours and Dr John wrote "perfectly healthy" in his Well Baby book. The good doctor confessed that he initially glanced over us in the waiting room because he was looking for a six week old baby, not one that looked more like a three month old baby (sprawled out in full length across his mother's knee, sleeping off a milkfest).

In the waiting room, btw, I bumped into two separate acquaintances who both rolled up with grins to say "saw you in the paper!"

Everyone was very nice not to point out that such a big strapping boy really shouldn't be seen out in public with a lightly pink trimmed jacket (but his mother was running very late, and Braeden didn't want to change out of his favourite sleeping shirt and she didn't have the time or heart to insist. Didn't stop her from feeling really funny about it, however!)

Bubs has now had all his six week shots. He minded the first of the two injections yesterday (cried and fussed a bit) but when the nurse and his awful mother turned him around and gave him a SECOND shot, he became angry then distraught at the evil treachery.

(You bastards! It was only ONE injection last week!)

Yesterday afternoon he was a bit grizzly and overhungry, but otherwise he was fine and there was no sign of the fever/lethargy of the previous occasion. He's a bit hot and thirsty today (and has just woken up.. dammit.. let's hope Dad can soothe him back to sleep) but otherwise cheerful.

Ahhh.. maybe he is getting back to sleep. That would be better than good, because it's hot and itchy out here, oops ... Wayne report to hand. Baby wide awake but otherwise happy, probably making busy in his naps or about to which is why he doesn't feel like sleeping. Meanwhile we listen to the musical mobile via the baby monitor, and keep our fingers crossed we won't have another visit from The Meltdown Kid this afternoon ;-)
