Week 35, Day 1 (Bumps that go WHUMP in the night)
You know you've reached another milestone when the midwife visits are scheduled weekly from here on in. Robyn said lots of very nice and approving things about my weight control, bodily health and general blossoming of bellyhood. She measured bubs, and agreed that we really do need to scan His Majesty to see how big he is, and if he's growing at a faster than usual rate.
Therefore if I understand this right, there'll be another scan a week or so after the next one to measure his growth. You need at least two points of reference to measure anything, right?
So on Monday morning at 10.30, I go under the scan head again and we'll find out his stats. Yeah you betcha I'm going to ask for sex confirmation. I just can't get my head around what they showed me at the 19 week scan as being male genitalia. Either both the parents were looking at the wrong thing, or the technician was. That was a rib .. or else my understanding of human anatomy is completely skewed and human males *do* have a bone in their penis.
Given the techician's mistakes on other areas of the scan (my supposedly losing a baby to a heart defect, for one), forgive me if I don't 100% believe everything she hung her hat on.
And she had rather a nasty personal swipe at me in the report, which was completely unnecessary, so I'm not her greatest fan ;-)
Needless to say we're not going to Chch Womens for this scan. Nope, a whole new scan place to check out, and hopefully they'll provide us with new pix for our enjoyment (yes I'm going to ask for a pic of *that* too, LOL).
The news was all good at the checkup. Baby's heartrate was 151 bpm. My bp is 125/80, and the weight is down a kilo and a bit from last time (two weeks ago). Fundus is showing LOWER than last time, but that could just be baby moving down into position, and Robyn did comment that his head is well down and deeply engaged in my pelvis.
We're both thinking he's long rather than fat, but it's also quite apparent he's no tiddler. So some measurements are in order, including head diameter, shoulder width, overall length, and of course weight (which can be as much as 10% margin of error, either way).
Hey ... have you been watching that Brit drama "Bodies"??? Wheeewwww.. I sincerely hope that it bears no real resemblance to any Ob/Gyn ward anywhere, otherwise I think I'd rather have my baby down the back paddock under a gum tree. Good programme, well written & acted, but NOT the most reassuring thing for a first time pregnant worrywort to watch ;-)
Anyhoo, time to feed the baby ;-) Apparently babies put on an average of 200 grams each week from now on in, but the feeling is Braeden's growth is more generous than this.
Possibly by rather a lot... ;-) Good baby (rubs belly). Fat baby!
