Week 35, Day 5 (Scan report)
Ooooh I LIKE Cashmere Radiology!
The difference in attitude to patients is remarkable, and you are treated with courtesy, respect and professionalism. A very big difference to the "patients are the bane of our existence" attitude of the big outfit.
We had a male technician, and he was a real sweetie. Didn't hurt me once, and warned me if he was going to press hard or try to nudge Baby into a better position.
As a result I was much more relaxed, so his job was easier, and it all went very well.
.. welll... except for the bit where after lying flat on my back for 20 minutes, I had to roll over, and discovered that my back had locked and spasmed. That was embarrassing, but Wayne helped heave me up, and I managed to flop into the position John needed.
Just goes to prove what I meant when I wrote on the birth plan "prefer not to give birth on my back due to old injury, ditto hands & knees".
Anyhoo, that's enough of the teasing, now for what you want to know!
YES it's a boy! We were treated to a very good view of his manly bits, and there's no question. He's either a boy, or a girl with one hell of a penis envy complex ;-)
Weight: 3310 grams, which calculates out to about 7 3/4 lbs already (rounded off.. calculated this on my cell phone later, LOL)
So with just over four weeks to go to due date, IF he puts on the bare minimum he would probably weigh in at close to 10 lbs (4500 grams or 4.5 kg)
If he does the 'average' (250 grams per week) then he'll come in at 4.75 kgs, or closer to 11lbs.
If he does what he's been doing so far (does extra well) then he could easily go over 12 lbs, maybe as much as 13.
And that's IF he comes on his due date. If he goes two weeks over like his mother did... well... it doesn't bear thinking about, does it.
Apparently from 10lbs onwards, they start making suggestions about a c-section, and the advice becomes more pressing the bigger the baby.
Much as I don't want a caesarian, I really don't feel like pushing out a thumping great All Black in full kit and caboodle, so if he's going to be a fairy elephant of about a stone, then thank you very much, make mine a zipper.
They are going to send out his scan pix and report by mail this week in time for the midwife visit on Thursday, so as soon as I get those, we'll know more, and hopefully I'll be able to figure out how to scan a transparency (like x-ray film) on to my computer.
No, there's no pic of his goulies, but there IS at least one absolutely adorable one of his face.
Full frontal.
Talk about 'chubby chops', LOL! He looks like a very well conditioned full term baby, complete with gummy grins, a fist over his eyes (turn the bloody light out), and he even stuck his tongue out at us a few times.
But he's long as well as well-fleshed, and all his internal bits got another big lookie and seem to be functioning just as they should be.
And yeah.. he's got his father's nose!

1 Comments:
The tech (John) was trying unsuccessfully to get the necessary readings of blood flow through the heart, but baby kept fidgeting. Unlike the 19 week tech, he didn't get annoyed with the baby or the mother, he just grinned and said "it would be easier if baby would just lie still for a moment", and tried again.
To whit, Braeden responded by getting the hiccups.
So we're looking at the monitor and tracking the red and blue movements, despite every four seconds or so a big splash of movement (ie colour) indicated another hiccup. This made the job pretty much impossible, but John kept his smile and patience, and in the end he got his result.
Braeden might be too big to hide from the soundwaves any more, but he still gets his objections noted, LOL!
