Week 37, Day 5 (Pt 2 - after the scan!)

Adrienne: well done & good guessing!

Baby "weighed" in at approx 3.68kgs, with a margin of error +/- 15%. So he's a healthy 8 pounder, and is putting on enough weight to be healthy, but not nearly enough to cause either of us major problems.

Want to see him?

This is the right side of his face, with his left fist tucked up by his chin. The very next moment he opened his eyes, seemed to look straight at us and waved both fists as if to say "bloody paparazzi!"

Love those chubby chops!

Btw, Mum asked if the ultrasound could pick up if he had hair, but I doubted it as it seemed unreasonable to expect technology to detect something so fine. When I mentioned this to today's technician, she said it was entirely possible, and showed us the back of baby's head. Sure enough - lots and lots of fine long hair. So it sounds like he's inherited his mother's fine straight hair, and not his father's thick wavy hair (but then again, it can very well all fall out before he's a year old and change completely! I went from jet black curls to dead straight mousey blurgh).

A brand new thing they're offering for pregnancy scans (well, at Cashmere Radiology anyway) is the opportunity to have your scan put on to CD for a mere $15.

Too cool for words! When we asked if we could have a tape made (we provided the tape!) of baby's 11 week and 19 week scans, the reaction was a flat and absolute "NO WAY!" But that was Chch Womens, after all.

I'd have loved those scans on tape - he was much smaller then and you could see much more "baby" at a time, and those tiny tanties he threw were too cute for words.

But we're getting this one sent to us (even though it turned out to be the shortest, LOL). Ah well, it's better than nothing and seeing as he kept turning his bum towards the screen, it should be excellent fodder for his 21st party!

We're getting better at reading more technical bits on the screen, and it seemed to me that according to the comparison data on view, he's ahead for dates. F'rinstance, the gestation ratio (37/5) would always be on view, but as something or other was measured, a comparison would appear just above it (the new figure) to indicate what age that usually meant. The figures 40/0 came up a LOT!

And seeing the chubbiness and completeness of this kid, plus all the hair, plus the hormonal reaction on his nether regions, I reckon he's about 'done'.

Yeah yeah.. me and wishful thinking.

I had to laugh at baby and his protruding bum - it seems I've created a bit of a monster. He gets the hiccups so regularly (nightly, pretty much) that it's become a habit for him to shove his backside out at an extreme angle and have me rub it for comfort. More his hip and flank really, but it's all general.

So when he felt the technician prodding him with the scan head, he presented her with his butt and expected a jolly good rubbing. When she tried to dodge his bum to get a better look at other things (legs, spine, liver), he would move until his bum was again under her scan head, and push it up for a rub.

Of course what that looked like on the SCREEN was that he was either mooning us, or showing off a marvellous pair of bollocks! (Those pre-birth hormones seem active; they weren't anything like that big last time!)

It's all there on the CD.. roll on his 21st ;-)

Heh heh, yeah that tickles me too. Wish I could blame magnums, but I'm sad to say I don't think I've snarfed a single one during this pregnancy. Banana ice slushies.. however... ;-)
