Week 38, Day 6 (Who's your dummy?)

Adrienne - That's a perfectly reasonable request :-) (for the rest of you, check out yesterday's post in the question segment)

You came very close last night to getting a heads-up just like that, as the contractions came back with a vengeance. We got down to eight minutes apart at 11.04pm, then they stopped.
Waited til 1am to see if they were going to resume, then toddled off to bed. Was woken at 4.33am with another one which had a successor fifteen minutes later, then that disappeared too.

Nothing this morning, except a stomach that feels like it's been in a boxing match, and a very relieved baby who threw a tanty in between contractions last night. Actually, was he throwing a wobbly, or were they kicks and squirms of excitement saying "Are we there YET???" Either way, it was a full body experience from baby, and just deepened the feeling of total assault on my bod.

Then (for kicks & giggles) those friendly menstrual-type cramps came back for a visit. So for more than three hours I had almost constant discomfort, because as soon as one activity 'stopped' the next started, and occasionally baby decided not to always wait his turn!

What surprised me was that these contractions were by no means the strongest or most painful I'd had previously. In fact I'd have classified them as "moderate BH-type". But three hours of even "moderate BH-type" plus the other two assaults were enough to leave my belly quite tender this morning, and made sleep last night a bit awkward.

If bubba hasn't made a more determined entrance before tomorrow's midwife visit, I'll see what she makes of all this. I want baby checked out to make sure all this isn't too hard on him. (9,37am - good strong contraction while correcting some typos in this post. We're off to Ashvegas this morning to get groceries.. methinks this could be a quick trip!)

I am determined not to call Robyn in too soon! (How embarrassing!) I even sent Wayne off to bed, as he looked all done in, and it seemed sensible that one of us had better get some sleep if we were going to have a busy night.

One thing I did learn though, is that it's impossible to keep track by yourself unless you write the contractions down. So there's a tip for the ladies - have a pen and paper handy, because when the contractions get regular, trust me, your focus will desert you and you will completely lose track of little things like the time.

If a number-obsessed control freak can lose control of her numeracy, a more "normal" individual probably stands no chance ;-)
