Week 40, Day 2 (Shiver me timbers, & rattle me dags!)

Adrienne, you asked about the herbals I'm on :-) They're all with my midwife's blessing, and I confess that while I try to remember to take them three times a day, I don't always succeed. Every single one of these advises "take with meals".

"5-W" by Nature's Sunshine (2 tabs, 3 times daily). Contains Black Cohosh root, Squaw Vine herb, Dong Quai root, Butcher's Broom root, and Red Raspberry leaves. Retail $24.70 per 100

"Raspberry Leaf tablets" by Blackmores, 2 tabs 3 times daily. $11.45 per 84.

"Iron & Vitamin C" by Healtheries, depends.. sometimes 2 per day, sometimes 1. Prescription read 2 twice daily, but sheesh.. who needs to be THAT bound up!!!! $15 per 360 on prescription.

"Evening Primrose Oil" by Red Seal, 2 tabs once daily. Not sure the cost, had these in medicine cupboard for dealing with migraines. Apparently you can (ahem) use them directly to soften the cervix, but I haven't dared ask Robyn about this, and I'm soooo not going to try it without checking first!

All of these are taken with a big old glass of orange juice, because that can be a fruit serving as well as a more conducive way of absorbing the goodies (tea and coffee inhibit the iron uptake, for example).

(The Ev. Prim. Oil can get it's act going any time it likes.. I've got a very annoying headache that's been with me since I woke up, and not helped by a very busy day doing books. Still and all, got a total of 12 months of client GST done (yay!) and I've just clocked off to put my feet up and knit another pair of bootees with some wool remnants. Might even get some nap time.

We went out to a Bad Taste Costume party last night, and for once we were in mufti. I normally adore costume events, but a combination of a client visit on the way (!!!) and just being too bejiggered to fuss meant I took the evening off. I forgot my camera though, which is unforgivable because there were some unrepeatable sights on offer! Gotta hand it to my family for being brave, creative and the knack of completely throwing themselves into the moment!

A fantastic party, but I had to beg off at about 10.30 and come home because I was so tired I was nearly asleep on my feet. Add "forgiving" to their list of credits :-)

Highlight of the evening was my niece's bright and inquisitive young daughter who politely asked to pat my belly, and asked some very insightful and clever questions for one so young. She was captivated with the idea of an ultrasound, and that I had been able to watch my baby on "television". Given that she was helping me tune in a television at the time, I waited for the expected "can we see him on THIS television?" question, but she was bright enough to realise that it was a hospital-only trick ;-)

The verdict of my sisters and sisters in law is that I look ready to pop, and they half expect a call by the end of the weekend. Nice bit of wishful thinking, but now that I've rung all these clients and moved them UP the schedule, I'd actually quite like it if we waited til next weekend!

There's just no pleasing some people, eh ;-)
